Our
Philosophy

Technology isn't bad

We are not tech worshipers, nor do we think technology is inherently bad. We think the proper use of technology - subjugated under us and oriented towards the ineffable good - is both possible and proper.

...But technology must work for us

Our culture worships innovation, in such a way that we end up being subservient to it. It thus makes us matter for unknown transpersonal agencies to ram through our world, reshaping our cities to be ugly, addicting children to porn, and separating us from each other. We at SinGuard think the only way to solve all of these surface level phenomena, is to solve the root cause, by putting technology in its proper place, that is, subservient to us.

It is not our place to decide what that means for you

We here at SinGuard believe in Subsidiarity. It is not our place to dictate what is good for you, your family, or your community. We will make tools that allow you to make that decision for yourself, and will provide options for what we believe to be prudent (especially when that option is currently unavailable), but we will never make that decision for you. This does not mean we don't believe in an ultimate good, we do... we are just not prideful enough to think that we here in Dallas can fully know the specifics of what that means for everyone forever.

Hello

I'm Jacob Schmidt, Founder & CEO of SinGuard. In a world full of people trying to steal your attention and lock you in into cycles of sin, I'm trying to break that trend, empowering you to care for what really matters. SinGuard Lock is an important first step for us, but the ultimate mission of this company is to go far beyond phones - we want to empower the prudence use of technology in general, whether that be online, in gyms, or in architecture

My Story

Growing up with a smartphone, I fell into a lot of patterns of distraction and sin, and lived with that for a long time. After conversion to Christianity, I started to try to rid myself from these behaviors, but found it was a struggle. I decided it was imprudent to have access to content that can lead me to serious sin in my pocket at all times, but I also found that many alternatives to the smartphone seemed infeasible to use while living in the modern world. Without a smartphone, I couldn't go to my local gym, easily use dual factor authentication at my job, connect to my car, or even just check the weather!

This didn't push me away from buying a dumb phone, however, as the words of the Savior stayed in my head: "If your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off." I wanted to apply this principle without losing access to tools that didn't cause me to sin, and after investigation, wasn't satisfied with any of the solutions on the market right now. In response, I set up my phone to be "locked", where I can have the tools I want, without having imprudent access to occasions of sin.

After setting this up on my phone, I shared this with a couple friends who had also experienced the same struggles. After some tinkering and many conversations, I decided to found SinGuard
